Stefano Russo

Stefano Russo, 96, of Bronx, NY, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Friday, May 27th with his wife Maria Russo and his children by his side.  He spent his final days surrounded by his wife, children, and family that he loved so much.

Stefano was born on November 25, 1925 in Cattolica Eraclea in the province of Agrigento in Sicily to Giuseppina and Giuseppe Russo.  This is where he met the love of his life and future wife, Maria (Ippolito) Russo.

Stefano and Maria were married in September 1961 in Pompei Italy and emigrated to the United States. They settled in the Bronx where Stefano began work as a union carpenter.  In June 1962 they were blessed with their first child Josephine and, their second child, Joseph, followed a year later in June 1963.

In the Bronx, Stefano and Maria carved out a life full of faith and surrounded by family and friends.  They sacrificed much to provide opportunities for their children.  Over the decades he watched with pride and joy as their family grew.  Stefano was an amazing family man, and loved his wife, children, in-laws, grandchildren, parents, sisters, nieces and nephews with all his heart.  He took the greatest pleasure in sitting at a full table, surrounded by family.

In his later years, he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren - Michael, John, Chelsea, Joseph, Claudia and Cynthia.  He sat through many a Little League game, dance recital, school play and graduation ceremony to support them.

Stefano is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Maria Russo, as well as his two children and six grandchildren, Josephine (Russo) Carcione and Dr. Joseph Rosario Carcione Jr. and their children Michael Anthony Carcione and Jessica Ann (Zaloom) Carcione, John Mark Carcione and Joseph Stephen Carcione and Joseph Russo and Lucia Teresa (Rinaldi) Russo and their children Chelsea Amanda Russo, Claudia Marie (Russo) Bracker and Donald Bracker and Cynthia Renee Russo. 

He is predeceased by his sisters with whom Stefano shared a special connection Anna (Russo) Arcuri and Petrina (Russo) Vullo.

The family will receive friends and relatives at Ralph Giordano Funeral Home on Monday, May 30 and Tuesday, May 31, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9:30 am.  Mr. Russo will be laid to rest immediately following the funeral mass at St. Raymond's Cemetery.

His care and arrangements have been entrusted to Ralph Giordano Funeral Home.

Due to public health concerns, masks are recommended to be worn at all times in the funeral home to protect the family, staff and community.
