Joseph Toth, age 81, peacefully sailed into the sunset on June 25, 2023, with his daughter and sisters by his side. Born in Tiszalök, Hungary, his family fled his war-torn birthplace when he was just a toddler for four years of sanctuary in Starnberg, Germany. Joe and his family finally arrived by a Liberty Ship in New York City in 1948, where he eventually graduated from Xavier High School in 1960.
Joe became the first member of his family to graduate from college at the University of Detroit in 1965, where he studied aeronautical engineering. He retired from Northrop-Grumman on Long Island after 38 years of service, then moved to southeastern Maryland to work for the US Navy.
Joe’s favorite past-times were sailing, downhill skiing, and watching soccer. He will be remembered as the life of the party, with his prolific story-telling and never-ending good humor.
Joe is predeceased by his wife, Alberta. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca; sisters, Catherine Brown and Paula Toth; nephew, Kenneth Brown, and nieces Catherine Brown and Dawn Hull (David).
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023, 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:30-8:30 pm at the Ralph Giordano Funeral Home, Bronx, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 9:30 am. Interment to follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Amputee Coalition or Xavier High School, NY.
