Josefa Fernandez

Josefa Fernandez, lovingly known to all as Fife, and affectionately known to her grandchildren as Mama Mia, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2021. A devoted and beloved mother to Nelson, Carmen, Iris, Ana and their spouses Angel, Rene, Juan and Mike.  A proud and dedicated Mama Mia to Jason, Emily and Edwin; Jonathan and Steven; and Margaret and Michelle.  An adored great-grandmother to Leslie and Christian.

Josefa was born 85 years ago in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico.  She moved to New York in 1967.  She raised her four children as a single mother, in a loving environment with grace and strength.  She never let life's struggles dampen her spirit.  She was always happy had a beautiful smile and a quick and clever sense of humor.  She was compassionate, caring, and giving.  She loved music and she loved to dance, but her passion was cooking...if she could have fed the world, she would have!

We were all blessed, grateful and thankful to have shared our lives with her, our Fife.  She will be loved and missed beyond measure.

 The family will receive friends and relatives at the Ralph Giordano Funeral Home on Friday, January 8, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mrs. Fernandez at Our Lady of Assumption Church on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Raymond's Cemetery.
