Ida Squitieri Pagnotta was born on August 28th, 1932, to Francesco Squitieri and Angela Merola. Ida was born in the town of Sarno within the Province of Salerno in Italy and remembered the events of World War II including her father’s experience as a soldier. She was proud of her Italian heritage and adored her Squitieri family including her beloved cousin Louis Squitieri. She emigrated from Sarno and arrived at the shores of America to live with her family in New Jersey. In 1978, Ida married John Pagnotta at St. Theresa’s Church and lived on Pilgrim Avenue for the rest of their marriage. She loved everyone she encountered and although she did not have children of her own, she was a mother to many. She loved all her nieces and nephews which include Michael, Louis, Bernadette, Anthony, Thomas, Nicole, Michael Jr., Jarrod, and Francine. Ida has left behind brother-in-law Louis “Sonny” Pagnotta and sister-in-law Carol Pagnotta. She was especially loving to the children and grandchildren of her lifelong friends Michele and Maria Agovino. Later in life, Ida was taken care of by her wonderful home-aid Castella, niece Bernadette Obertello, and Michelle Agovino as well as their families. Ida was loved by many and left an immense mark upon all those she called her own. Her compassion, thoughtfulness, and motherly love will never be forgotten. She taught us all how to love unconditionally.
