Giovanni Cutuli

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Giovanni (John) Cutuli on March 29, 2024, in the Bronx, New York, at the age of 86. Born on March 25, 1938, in Catania, Sicily, Giovanni embarked on a life-changing journey to New York in 1960, where he would go on to live a life full of passion, achievement, and love.

Renowned as a master chef, Giovanni's talents shone brightly in some of New York City's most prestigious restaurants. His dedication to the culinary arts and his ability to weave the rich flavors of Sicily into his dishes made him a beloved figure in his community. His work was not just about feeding the body but also nourishing the soul, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of experiencing his cuisine.

Beyond the kitchen, Giovanni was a dedicated family man and a lover of film. His marriage of 62 years to his adored wife, Pina, was a beautiful testament to their enduring love and partnership. Together, they created a home in the Bronx that was not only a gathering place for delicious meals but also a cozy cinema where Giovanni's passion for movies could flourish. Their home was a sanctuary where laughter, joy, and the magic of storytelling brought family and friends closer together, especially for Sunday dinners and holidays. 

Giovanni's legacy is lovingly carried forward by his wife, Pina; his sons, Dave and his spouse Judy (Bonomo) and Steve and his spouse Gelena (Solano) and his treasured grandchildren, Johnny and Juliann Cutuli. His spirit, his teachings, and his love live on through them, ensuring his memory will forever enrich their lives.

To honor Giovanni’s life and legacy, a funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church located at 627 E 187th Street, Bronx, NY on Monday, April 1st at 11:00. Interment is Private.

Memorial Contributions in his memory, may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church (Bronx).
